West Footscray Football Club on 15 May, 2023 at 12:45pm

The West Footscray Football Club is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Rob Skilton.

Rob spent many years sitting in the bus shelter next to the cricket nets, cheering the Roosters, as one of the "Footscray Hockey Club Crew".

The club would like to extend their sincere condolences to Rob’s family and friends during this difficult time.

One of my stories of Bobby

Late 80's on a Thursday night at Johnson reserve. Bobby and I were 2 of the last to leave. We both lived in Khartoum street, so I gave Bobby a dink home. We got about 50m up the footpath, got a bit wobbly, and ended up falling into a brick fence with those old school triangle shape bricks on the ridge. I kept pedalling to try to recover the situation, while bobbys face was dragging along the row of ridge bricks. We eventaully both crashed over the fence into a garden bed. We laughed our heads off, bobby with his special laugh that he used to talk through, calling me to drunk to dink him home. We got back on the bike and eventually made it home. When I saw Bobby Saturday he told me that when he got home he gave Brent and Jaimee a kiss goodnight and left blood on both their pillows. When Tracey went in to see the kids the next morning she didnt unserstand why both of them had blood in them. Bobby had ripped half his ear off on the fence and we had no idea. The scar was witness to that night for years to come.

We are so sad to hear of the loss of Rob. After watching his service I realised how much we have in common: married to a golf tragic, living in a lifestyle village, a love of caravaning and having good times with friends. I think we would have all got on well. Hopefully by reconnecting we will be able to catch up in the future. Until then all our love as you come to terms with a different life without your Rob. VALE ROBERT (BOBBY) SKILTON

VALE ROBERT (BOBBY) SKILTON
It is with sadness that we hear of the passing of Robert (Bobby) Skilton after a short illness. Bobby joined the club in 1967, played 105 junior games before making his senior debut in 1974. He played 320 senior games and 230 masters games, with a total of 655 club games. Bobby played in the Men’s State League 3 premiership in 1985, the year the club won a record 5 men’s grand finals. He represented Victoria in the 1968 U12 team.

The family have been involved in the club in various coaching, team managing and administration roles to support their children through juniors and seniors. Bobby was assistant coach to good mate and head coach Glenn Lloyd in the Women’s 1sts State League 3 premiership team in 2009. Bobbie’s daughter Jaimee Skilton played in the team and she continues to play today.

Bobby was a terrific club member, contributor and character and will be missed. Our sincere condolences to Tracy, Brent and Jaimee Skilton, Stephanie, Tex and Tully, the extended family, his colleagues, friends and hockey mates.

Tracy, Brent, Jaimee and family we send our condolences with the passing of uncle Robert.
I have great memories as a kid going to hockey games (Robert yelling from sidelines) and holidays. Even being taken out to lunch on my 18th birthday with Nan and Aunty Joyce in city. Then onto the Hyett for drinks. (On his “extended “ lunch break at work of course!).
While you were here you lived life to its fullest and I dare say you shall continue to live largely on the other side. May you rest in peace.
Love Neris, Bart, Ally, Liam and Grace xx

What can one say when so much has already been said through tributes and social media.
Robert, my closest and best friend for over 55 years. I can remember the first time we become mates.. We were both interested in what was going on at Johnson reserve, so we ventured there after school to check it out. I can remember that we spent so much time there that Wayne McAlinden and Geoff Govan had to drive us home to explain to our parents where we had been. That was the beginning of a true friendship. Our family, mates and friends know what we have been through as at nearly every get together something had come up about what Bobby and Benny had been up to. Memories are far too many, so the few that have stuck are: Balloon football at 9 Pitt St, Sunday morning at 38 Pitt St with dad not starting to cook breakfast until he knew if that bludger from down the road was coming. Fred’s delivery truck, Bishop St, Customs House Hotel these were the start of a true and long lasting relationship.
My deepest sympathies to Tracy, and for her allowing me to be a part of your family.
You were a one-off mate and surely will be missed by all.

Bob, you have been part of our memories for our lifetime.
Growing up in Pitt St, parties at club Khartoum, crazy fun filled holidays in Torquay, playing hockey together and of course playing golf. Crazy Saturday barbecues at Footscray West Football Club with all the crew.
More recently our caravan excursions across the country and of course retirement to Portarlington…..
Life just won’t be the same…….

Robert, to say that we’re all heartbroken at your sudden passing is ahuge understatement. Who is going to take your place as the “centre of fun” now? You’ve been a great mate, travel companion, and made every party a blast.
One memory that stands out, is you singing your head off (out of tune) by the pool with your headphones on. The whole resort could hear you, but you were totally unaware 🤣.
We will miss your laugh, and determination to stir things up Rob, but don’t worry, we will all pull together and keep Tracy close to us.
Give the heaps Robert.💙💙💙

Tracy & family. It is with the utmost sincerity, that I offer my deepest condolences to you and all your family. It came as a shock to many, hearing of Robert’s passing, none more so than yourself, that we lost a great mate of many years, one who will be really greatly missed. We all know of the loveable character he was, especially at our parties and these will not be the same.
Take care Trace.❤️❤️❤️

Rob
I sit here and think of the things we had planned and how my life has now changed forever. As much as it breaks my heart preparing for your final celebration I have had time with our wonderful friends and family looking back at all the fun times Club Khartoum, Torquay, Bali, Europe, Cruises, Hockey, christmases and a milestone birthday or two and there is always a story to tell with a lot of laughter.
We both just loved the new life we were creating in Portarlington together.
To love someone means to love them warts and all and we did.
