Today I Salute an incredible man I met ten years ago, Giuseppe "Joe" Inserra OAM, a remarkable Rotarian.

From our first meeting, it was clear that Joe and I shared the same core values as if he could understand my thoughts. Spending time with Joe convinced me of the immense value of joining Rotary. I was so enthusiastic that I visited a club without an invitation and immediately contacted Joe to share my experience and the names of the club members I had met. Joe emphasized the mission of Rotary, and at that moment, I realized that I had found my path to connect with like-minded individuals who, like Giuseppe "Joe" Inserra OAM, were dedicated to making a positive impact on the world. Reflecting on our encounter, I couldn't help but wish our paths had crossed earlier so I could have been a part of his philanthropic endeavours.
His encouragement and inspiration led me, as a new member, to join Rotary International and continue the tradition of delivering meaningful contributions locally and globally. I will never forget his warmth and support when he surprised us by attending a Rotary meeting with his wonderful wife, Vickie Inserra. His presence highlighted his unwavering commitment to making a difference in the world and left an indelible impression on us all.
I am immensely grateful for the privilege of being mentored by Giuseppe "Joe" Inserra. His achievements and selflessness have taught me invaluable lessons about our limitless potential. Being guided by Joe during my early years at Rotary was a true honor, as his encouragement and support helped me navigate the Rotary journey and develop a deep understanding of its principles. I also want to express my heartfelt appreciation to Joe and Vickie Inserra for their unwavering support of Rotary fundraisers and initiatives. They have been instrumental in championing causes that provide security to vulnerable children, eradicate Trachoma in Australia, and more. Their advice and inspirational presence have been crucial in driving the success of many Rotary projects.
Joe's dedication to service and unwavering belief in the positive impact of Rotary have left a profound impression on me. His involvement as a founding member of the Laverton Bendigo Bank Community Bank and his journey from Sicily to Australia resonated deeply with my values.
One of Joe's remarkable initiatives that exemplified his commitment to creating opportunities for others was establishing the Laverton Skate Centre. This centre provided a space for his children and became a hub for countless others to learn and enjoy the exhilaration of roller skating. Joe's enthusiasm for life and his willingness to embrace new experiences were truly inspiring, particularly when he started skating at 50.
Joe's actions serve as a reminder that there is always time to pursue one's passions and make a positive impact in the community. His example will continue to inspire me to embrace new challenges and create opportunities for those around me. Joe Inserra truly embodied the essence of Rotary, showcasing traits such as generosity, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to service. His selfless actions had a profound impact on numerous individuals, leaving an indelible mark on the community.
What set Joe apart was his exceptional ability to make others feel valued and welcomed, particularly as an immigrant in a foreign land. His remarkable character and genuine care left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
