Sue , My kids still call you Mama, 23 and 25 they are now . I called you Mama because you were outstanding as a mum and I watched and copied and did the best I could. My heart reaches out to Eric, Angus, Jack, Arlie, and all of Sue’s family and friends. My deepest condolences go to all of you. The shock and pain you are bearing must be intolerable. Losing a person as warm, kind, loving and thoughtful as Sue is impossible to accept. I first met Sue 11 years ago as we both embarked upon a new adventure at St Benedict’s College (or ‘Mango’ as we fondly called it) and I knew very quickly that we would become good friends. She carried no hidden agendas and her positive warm energy was captivating. Her love for her family, Eric, and life in general, was empowering. There were no conversations with Sue without us having a good chuckle. For us, it was often related to the crazy nuances of the religious traditions in the school where we worked. Many of which Sue could not understand. Her innocent interpretations and bewilderment often had the whole staff smiling. I can still picture the devastation on everyone’s faces when she announced to the staff that she was leaving SBC for a new job at Brisbane Girls Grammar. I truly missed her fun-loving ways at ‘Mango’, but we kept our friendship well and truly rolling with regular chats about The Bold and the Beautiful, and face-to-face catch ups on the Sunshine Coast or in Brisbane whenever possible. I also got to know Eric and meet her 3 beautiful children who she loved dearly and was so proud of. Sue, I always pictured us having fun as we grew old together. Eric, Peter and I eating prawns on the pontoon as we dangled our feet in the water, and you watching on with your feet high, in fear of being bitten by a bull shark. I always dreamed of the many adventures we would do, from La Vita… to a trip to the alps in Japan one day. I was literally investigating the possibility of Hakuba when we received the tragic news. Rest in peace, my dear friend. I love you with all heart and will truly miss you. Sending much love to you, and all your loved ones you have left in your wake, Kim xx

Shattered at the news of Sue’s passing and devastated at being overseas and missing saying goodbye at her funeral, please know that I will be thinking of you all at this incredibly sad time. I will miss Sue’s exuberance for life, fun and her companionship since she joined us all in Mount Martha. Even when she found her love in Eric and moved to Brisbane, that goofy but endearing Heli Lavalli on a phone call and the clink of a glass when we came together was a joyous part of my life. Sue’s sheer love, pride and devotion to her children Jack, Ang and Arlie was a pleasure to witness and a true attestation of the person she was. My very sincere and heartfelt condolences to Eric, Arlie, Jack, Angus and her family for the loss of such a wonderful partner, mother, sister and Aunt and for all those who’s life she touched and enhanced. I am so grateful for the fabulous memories I have of her sharing her life with my family, myself and our mutual friends. Sue will be immeasurably missed and I hope she rests in peace knowing how much she was loved and appreciated. Forever in my heart ❤️

Such a dedicated mum who loved her children with all her heart and was always so very proud of them. Many fun memories of the early years in Swan Hill and of our Friday nights with the girls singing along to Jimmy Barnes music.. We always called each other Martha and I remember how we laughed when you moved to Mt Martha!! Rest In Peace Martha, you will live on in your beautiful children..❤️
Finding the words is impossible to do when you're endeavouring to leave a tribute. I met Sue/ Flea in 1975 when I went to boarding school in Hamilton. She was smart, sporty and put everything she had into whatever she was tackling. We've kept in contact since then and I was looking forward to catching up in person again later this year with her and Eric. I can't be there Friday, but I will be in spirit. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to her children, family, friends and to Eric who was her rock. Rest easy Flea xxx

I am thankful that we enjoyed a phone catch-up recently - I can still hear you saying 'Hello Sondra' - I will remember that fondly, as I will, your beautiful, bright, friendly smile. My daughters, Holly and Sarah Hopkins both had the pleasure of being in a house group room with Ms Miles during their time at Brisbane Girls Grammar School while I was a staff member at the school and also interacted regularly with Susan. They both have very fond memories of the kind, caring and mother-like figure that Susan was to them during their years at high school. Our condolences are with your family.
It is with much sadness that I write this note to express my condolences to your whole family. I have such happy childhood memories spent with all the Brooks over many years as we grew up. Easter was always fun having adventures together. Whether on the river at Benjeroop, at the farm near Mansfield, or in Hamilton, our two families did much together as dad and Uncle Rex were great school friends and mum and Auntie Del were there keeping us fed and in line! Sue, I remember Uncle Rex called you Blues and us girls were always lass. I can’t remember what the boys were called but we were a great gang of kids having fun outdoors. Your voice and laugh with a cheeky smile and those gorgeous eyes is what springs to mind so readily today. I am sorry I cannot join your family in person for your farewell on Friday, but am glad l can join online. With much love to your whole family from the Deacon clan
I was so shocked and my heart broke when told of your sudden passing. I could not believe it, Sue (Flea) you were taken too soon. I have known Flea since 1973 when we were in Form 1 at Hamilton College. You were so clever and talented and loved by everyone. I was so pleased you rang me not long ago for our wonderful chat and we were going to catch up soon as l now live in Brisbane. You were so proud of your children and loved them very much. We had fun togeather Sue, we were naughty but we both loved every minute of it, evan the phone calls, laughs, plans for our kids (haha) and our secret chats will cherish them forever, buggar we didn't get too see each other before your passing, but don't worry we will see each other one day soon. Sue …you were one of a kind and I don't think I will ever have a friendship like what we had again. My sadness loosing you is overwhelming. We just understood each other. My life was instantly better when we met. Sue had a loyal and fiercely loving heart. Family meant everything to her. She adored Eric and the many adventures and plans they shared 🗺️ The fact that Jamie and our four children are so upset just goes to show what an impact Sue had. And that we all looked forward to spending time together! I guess we took it for granted that Sue would get well, she was a fighter after all and had a determined, strong spirit. I took for granted that we would have more times together...we were looking forward to taking Sue and her family out in our stink boat and even overnight! We were hoping we could lure Arlie & Sonny to move to Queensland and enjoyed sharing stories and photos of our children talking about work and life in general. I'm so grateful that Sue & Eric came to visit our new house in January and we celebrated her 63rd birthday together. 💓 I’m certain Sue is now our guardian angel that will look out for us all. I have felt it already.

Ms Smiles, to hear that the world lost such a bright light, broke my heart. You were one of the first teachers I met at SBC in my first year of high school and you impacted me immensely. From very early on you called me “Smiley” and then came you being referred to as “Ms Smiles” (which we know wasn’t always true haha!). You had a beautiful, outgoing, wild, genuine, sarcastic and caring personality. You brought out the best in everyone and pushed people out of their comfort zone to show them their potential, although that resulted in a lot of “why” and “stop”, you never gave up and were there with love and encouragement until the pushing was worth it. You were very missed when you left SBC and you will be very missed by the world that you made a better place. I wrote a letter for you the day you left, and you reached out to me a few years ago telling me you had found it and it had made your day reading my words. I told you that I was studying teaching and you told me that I was born to inspire others. I have almost finished my bachelor and I’m ready to inspire others like you inspired me and so many around you. You were an extraordinary human and you are already so missed. Keep shining your light in heaven like I know you will, Ms Smiles. Keep a watch over everyone down here, especially your loved ones. Heaven is a better place with her there.
